Plywood is far better than MDF, there is no comparison of strength and life between Plywood and MDF. The following points will make you sure of the comparative strength of plywood.
Plywood has more resistant power to moisture and water than MDF. Because plywood is made with 2 to 2.5mm thick core veneers that are glued together with water proof resin. Whereas MDF is made with saw dust/ wood particle and due to this MDF gets swell when come to water or moisture contact.
- Plywood has high nail holding capacity because it is made with the cross grain core and panel assembly. The cross grain structure of plywood binds the nail even at the edges.
- MDF is known for its weak nail holding capacity because it is made with wood particles or sawdust so the gripping power of nail gets weak and thus it is not recommended to use MDF in bed and high load-bearing
